Dog Waste Stations
The District maintains dog waste stations throughout the community. The stations are emptied and restocked by our landscape vendor on a weekly basis. If you notice a dog waste station that has been missed on the pickup schedule, or is overly full, please use our Report an Issue form to let us know. Dog stations in the newer areas are installed by the developer and serviced by the same vendor.
Furry friend reminders
While enjoying the outdoors, please remember to keep your dog on a leash. Having your dog on a leash protects both your dog and the community, and it’s the law. The Town of Castle Rock has a leash law.
Leash laws
According to the Town’s Municipal Code, leashes / cords / chains cannot be more than 10 feet in length. They must be held by a person of sufficient age, size and physical ability to restrain the animal. Additionally, physical leashes are required, meaning e-collars and remote leashes do not comply in public settings.
The only places pets can be off-leash within the Town of Castle Rock include your personal property and at designated dog parks. If you are walking your dog on trails, open space, parks, etc., they must be leashed.
If you see an unattended dog off-leash, please contact CRPD’s dispatch center at 303-663-6100.
Please contact the Animal Control Unit at 720-733-6063 to report the following:
- Dog off-leash with owner
- If you have contained a lost dog / pet
- Ongoing issue with a dog owner letting their pet off-leash
You may also report ongoing issues involving dogs off-leash through the Town’s online TRAKiT software system. Select Issue Type 21 – Dog not on a leash.
Be a good neighbor and train your dog to use a non-turf area (like gravel) rather than someone’s front lawn when you’re out walking, because grass won’t grow where dogs go. Please be sure to pick up behind your dog.
Pet solid waste
The Town Municipal Code requires the proper disposal of pet solid waste in order to protect public health, safety and welfare.
Castle Rock Water advises dog waste left on Town trails is a primary contributor to pollution in watersheds. Learn more about preventing watershed pollution and Protecting Water Quality from the Water Department.
